Using these features, you can create and edit Web pages without seeing HTML tags, drag and drop links to other Web locations without typing the URL or pathname, cut and paste graphics into your Web page, resize graphics, and add alternate text, and create and edit tables and forms. A warning message appears. The reason for saving your code from the Code Editor is so you can return to it if necessary after CoffeeCup changes the version in the Visual Editor. The Visual Editor window opens. Copy and paste it repeatedly to create a block of text for experimental purposes. The Format menu includes options include changing the font; making text bold, italic, or underlined; aligning it left, center, right, or fully justified; indenting text, and other effects. The Insert menu includes options that let you insert a link to another Web page, an image, a horizontal rule, and a title for the Web page. Many CoffeeCup HTML Editor options have to do with managing a project; others relate to spell-checking, testing, and so on. It offers a dynamic visualization system in which you can create your webpage graphically, having the HTML update automatically. It allows you to see content created on HTML5 or modifications on CSS3, as well as on the browsers you have installed. The CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor suite emphasizes the creation of websites with responsive design, adapting its resolution to the device in wich you are browsing.
Crucially for users on a budget, it's also free, but is only available for Windows. Launch CoffeeCup and choose how you’d like to get started (Image credit: CoffeeCup Software) User experience While slightly intimidating for absolute beginners, CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor offers to help you get started by giving you the choice of creating a single web page, or designing an entire site as a project. Opting for the latter makes it easy to keep all related files together, and quickly upload changes using the integrated FTP client. If the whole concept of writing a website from scratch feels intimidating, the Theme section also includes a couple of tutorials which you can customise and transform into an actual site should you like. No WYSIWYG for you - it’s Matrix-style raw HTML code for you (Image credit: CoffeeCup Software) But don’t expect any step by step help. If you’re not well versed in the intricacies of HTML coding, you will quickly find yourself at a loss with how to proceed further. There are some minor annoyances, such as the fact that the free version of the program doesn't include a spell checker, constantly nags you to upgrade, and that features like the time-saving tag library are only demos. The interface isn't the prettiest thing in the world either, and offers little scope for customisation. This could be what turns some people away from what is otherwise a competent design tool. Should you need help, you’ll find detailed files in the quick Start Guide and the searchable Knowledge Base (Image credit: CoffeeCup Software) Support The app comes with an online quick start guide which walks you through the interface in detail, but if that isn’t enough, you also have access to the Support Centre where you can also send an email to the support team should you need to. Final verdict This is definitely not an app for the faint hearted. It harks back to the early days of website design, and is aimed at people who know how to code.
That worked a few times, but when Coffeecup decided to break their promise, the download page disappeared. The way it worked, was that coffeecup.com would list all the software packages you purchased in the account page of the website. Anytime you needed to, you could go to that page and download the latest version of it. I had purchased about 15 software packages. So not only do I not receive updates, I no longer own the software I paid for (according to them). I haven't the faintest idea where the four and five start reviews are coming from. Indian rupee Rp Indonesian rupiah. Israeli new sheqel. I used to use Coffee Cup software a lot. But now I paid for the site designer 4.0 and it has so many bugs, it is worthless. I did submit a ticket and it was the usual check your firewall and antivirus. Every program was easy to use and inexpensive. Then after a short gap, I was searching for a simple program, that I could use to make a quick responsive website with. I am competent in Html, Javascript and W3.css, but wanted something different and looked at Coffeecup Software which I've always been most happy with in the past. I downloaded their Site Designer trial, but unfortunately, because of a family crisis, I only actually got to use the trial session for a day or so. As I did not get a response from my email asking for a further few days to explore its inner functions, I brought the product with the trust of the Coffeecup brand. Now that I have given Site Designer a proper trial, I sadly have to say that I am very disappointed with the software. I find it extremely complicated and not user friendly. The online help videos are not very helpful, they show how to acheive your task but is very difficult to understand. The server team did not have a back up of it supposedly. What commercial service does not have back ups of what is going on in their servers. As such, that feature is in fact a valid legal contract they made with all of their customers. As others note, they violated that contract and actively censor any comments with reference to it.What makes matters worse, is Coffeecup Software not only promised updates, they also promised to make the software available for re-download at any time. This was useful, and valuable, in that it could easily be installed on a new computer system, or reinstalled in the event it got corrupted.

You can make tweaks to your CSS and then see how it affects the pge you're coding. The recently added file tree feature is really a time saver. You can move files with a drop and drag feature without ever minimizing the program. One of my favorite features is the ability to update the core program with extensions. Some of the extensions are simple, like adding themes, while others are a offer a little more assistance like creating Lorem Ipsum text for you.

The idea of the series is a good one, especially for the software that lacks a printed manual; whether it is so useful when there are plenty of other books on the subject is questionable. A quick search on Amazon brought up 123 books on creating Web sites, so this one has to be pretty special to make it in the marketplace. The chapters are grouped into six parts: the basics (Welcome to the Web), building Web pages, 'Connecting with your audience', 'Web site frills', Blogs and Appendices. One difference is that the book, like many from the O'Reilly stable, is supported by its own Web site which provides live links to all of the sources mentioned in the book. It is worth looking at this site even if you don't buy the book! The last section (Chapter 3) includes advice on finding a domain name and finding a service to host the site. Naturally, this Chapter is of more value to US residents, but the general ideas are widely applicable. Chapter 4 deals with the choice of tools and beginners will find the information on choosing and using HTML editors very useful. The author identifies three free editors ( Nvu, HTML-kit and CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor ) all of which I've tried out. Nvu is suggested as being the most useful for beginners because of its WYSIWYG editing but my advice to any beginner is to forget about using a WYSIWYG editor and get accustomed to working in the code. I've yet to come across a WYSIWYG editor that isn't, in some respect or other, clunky, and Nvu is no exception to the rule. The problem is that you don't know what the system is doing underneath the screen presentation and if you don't know what is going on, you'll never learn how to do things simply and properly. My choice would be the CoffeeCup free editor, which is the same as the paid-for version, with the WYSIWYG feature blanked out - ideal! Again, I've tried out both of these in the past and occasionally use Dreamweaver. I didn't like FrontPage when I tried it and I've never been back to it.
